ok, I have looked at a few teams pages and need to understand this part...
(the rules).....
"Teams may place a club option on the end of any contract, but it will not be counted toward the avg. yearly salary. Club options must be 20% higher than highest yearly salary in contract. However, all club options must feature a buyout, at 25% of the club option."
"It is the owners discretion whether to exercise a club option at the end of the year. Owners will have 1 month from end of world series to decide whether to exercise the option or not. If owners do not exercise the club option, then the player automatically becomes a free agent and the owner must pay the 25% buyout.
1.question: so a buyout of 25%, or a cap hit of that years total contract if you dont sign them to the club option.....
this is a copy and paste job from that $ site with all the real life $ info and what the numbers look like when you do this....
ex.
Affeldt, Jeremy 9.000 2 yr/$9.5M (10-11)+12 cl opt 11:$4,500,000 12:$0.500
so if I wanted Affeldt for 2012 it shows 0.5M on paper.... but I would think it is 11:4.5M+ cl opt of 0.5M = 12:5M not 0.5M for 2012 I think some peoples pages are not right if this is correct...FYI if you just copy and paste all this and dont look at it closely, it would show 0.5M not 5M for his 2012 deal.... this copy and past problem is only for club option players, and assuming that I am right in the first place...
and If I DONT want Affeldt ...I would pay 25% of 5M = (1.25M as a cap hit) to drop him off my team and he would be a FA..... (not 25% of the 0.5)
if I resigned him to the 5M deal for 2012 and then in season.... dropped him its 1/2 of the 5M so the cap hit would be 2.5M.....
If I am right on this, if one were to copy and paste all club option years excel fields and not look at it closely or understand these rules one would only pay the option 0.5M and not be adding the 2011 salary to the option....unless they did it manually, and knew to do so.....
I added this below:
been looking at Twins team page they have a bunch of these club options in real life... and I think I am all wrong...lol disregard all my bla bla above lol ok, OR is it like this......

so
11:4.5M(or highest yr of $) *20% = 0.9M add THAT to the 4.5M = 5.4M for 2012 with a (buy out of 0.5M) so If I drop this guy any time its a .5 cap hit? or is it 25% of the 5.4M and thats the cap hit?
this seems right after looking more at the twins page...still am not wrapping my head around the ....buy out part/25%/ cap hit/0.5M on real page but I think the sal is correct at 5.4M not 5 M now....
More looking around......
what I think and the Twins numbers are still not matching up...... his numbers are a tad higher for his players that I would think they would be with my math.... so, I guess ,can some one that knows what there doing show some examples of club options copy and paste from the $ page ,and show there math too and or work to get to the real numbers.... or maybe I am making all this harder than it is and there is a few words that will help me get it...lol
